BIO
Mike Simpson is a New York based award winning Cinematographer. He has a diverse skillet that has resulted in cinematography awards for feature films, Addys for commercial work, and top rotation music videos on MTV.
FEATURES & DOC
In just the past few years, Mike's feature experience has brought him from New York and Los Angeles across the globe to Puerto Rico, Macedonia, Switzerland, Spain and Taiwan. These features have allowed Mike to work in diverse environments with a large international talent pool. Trailers from a number of the films can be seen on his website.
Mike's recent documentary work has him shooting for Academy Award nominated filmmaker PJ Raval. The doc captures the experiences of several LGBTQ seniors as they navigate the challenges and surprises of their “golden years,” and is funded by a slew of grants and awards including the ITVS diversity and development fund, the Cinereach media grant, and the LEF foundation moving image fund.
COMMERCIALS
Mike has shot for many commercials for high end brands including Nintendo, Coach, Budweiser, Dell, Whole Foods... The most recent Nintendo spots were for the incredibly popular Legend of Zelda games for Wii and the 3DS, all of which starred Robin Williams, and quickly became internet phenomenoms. Mike's commercials have won awards and produced results. From PSAs on slavery and human trafficking, to drunk driving and blood donations, Mike's commercials have had a strong impact on audiences. After his Blood Center of Texas commercial aired, blood donations increased dramatically, and the spots received high praise in major publications such as the New York Times.
MUSIC VIDEOS
His music video career has been eclectic, to say the least, and has included the full spectrum from hip-hop superstars such as Lil' Wayne and Rick Ross to underground self-proclaimed "drag terrorist" Christeene. His recent video, Inkredible, was the MTV "Jam of the Week" and #1 rotation video on MTV, BET and Fuse, and in a matter of days shot the million view mark on popular sites such as youtube. Meanwhile Christeene continues to win festival praise and critical acclaim for its potent and sex charged imagery.
